Understanding The 3 Types of Search Queries

Despite the billions of searches that happen each day through search engines like Google, Bing and others, these can all be boiled down to 3 search queries. Getting a better understanding of these types of searches can really support the individual search engine visibility efforts by distinguishing what is needed for SEM or SEO.

Search Queries

Types of Queries:

  • Informational Search Queries– types of searches that are looking for a particular piece of information (i.e. “What are the 3 types of search queries?”)
  • Navigational Search Queries – directional searches that could be for physical directions but also directing a searcher to a particular page/brand (i.e. “Corkboard Concepts glossary of terms”)
  • Transactional Search Queries – searches that signify action, which can be more than an actual purchase (i.e. “Nike shoe sales near me”)
