A Guide To Successful A/B Testing With VWO

Feb 13, 2025

Ensuring that your customers have an intuitive, enjoyable user experience on your website can lend a helping hand in increasing click-through rates, returning customers, and even sales. But how do you know what is (and isn’t) working? A/B testing on your website can give you valuable insights on what aspects of your website are strong and what may need improvement.

What is A/B Testing?

The control, A, is tested against the variation, B. Corkboard Concepts uses VWO (Visual Website Optimizer) to conduct tests like this. VWO makes this process easy and understandable.

How To Prepare A/B Testing

Setting up an A/B test may initially seem intimidating, but following these steps can make the process surmountable.

Define Your Goal

What are you trying to achieve by running this test? Do you want to increase leads or click-through rates? Or maybe decrease bounce rates? Whatever your goal may be, clearly identify it before setting up your test.

Form a Hypothesis

Create a prediction of what change you think will increase your goal. For example, you might think that changing the call to action (CTA) from “Learn More” to “Show Me More” will increase clicks to your landing page.

Determine a single, testable variable

In an A/B test, you will want to test one variable at a time. This could be a headline, button color, or an image. This does not mean you cannot test more than one variation of the variable at a time. If you are testing color, maybe the control is red, variation one is blue, and variation two is yellow. You just want to be careful you are not testing two variables within the same test, like color and headline.

Decide how long your test should run

Deciding the duration of your test is easy with VWO. The duration calculator can help you estimate how long the test needs to run to reflect significant results. This depends on a number of factors, like the average amount of traffic to your website, the number of variations you are testing, and the conversion rate.
