by | Jun 16, 2023

If you have been in discussions about SEO, you have probably heard the terms “content SEO” and “technical SEO” thrown around a bit. What do those terms mean? What is the difference between them?  Today we are going to dive deeper and look at content SEO vs. technical SEO and how these marketing strategies can support your business.

What is SEO?

Let’s take a step back. If you’ve heard of SEO, you probably associate it with one of the newest advancements in the digital marketing industry. If you are not, SEO stands for search engine optimization, and it is a multifaceted, long-term marketing strategy to help increase organic traffic to a site. This marketing tactic is so very important because a positive SEO reputation is associated with credibility, awareness, and crawl ability on a search engine platform such as Google.

What is Content SEO?

Content SEO is an important part of the SEO “pie.” Content SEO refers to the content creation process where you or a content specialist is developing content for your website to increase SEO value. This content can look like articles, blogs, Google web stories, copy on a page, and more. Content SEO’s main goal is to develop on-site content that will increase the SEO value of the site.

This side of SEO relies heavily on keyword research, content planning, trend analysis, and more. There are specific techniques that content SEO specialists rely on to ensure they are creating credible, rankable, and easily digestible content for a website. Your content will be less likely to be noticed by search engines without those factors, resulting in your website ranking at the bottom of search results.

What Is Technical SEO?

On the other hand, a whole different SEO atmosphere is technical SEO. Technical SEO involves looking at the backend elements of the website and ensuring that certain items set this site up for success. Most times, these items involve the help of a website guru or web developer.

Some examples of technical SEO can include taking care of indexing issues, checking core web vitals on a site, ensuring max page speed, taking a look at site maps, mobile friendliness, and more. Having a functional website is so important because you don’t want anything to interfere with the crawl of the website or lose organic traffic because of it. If a site doesn’t work properly, search engines will be able to tell, and visitors are going to leave, leaving you with less organic traffic.

All in all,

In your marketing strategy, you cannot ignore the importance of content SEO and technical SEO. Even though they seem like completely exclusive elements, they simply could not exist without eachother. What use is a site with no valuable content, and how useful is that content if you can’t access it?
