What Are Pop-Up Ads?

by | Mar 9, 2021

Pop-up ads are advertisements that suddenly appear in a new small window when you’re surfing the web

Pop-up ads are not the most liked type of advertisement for online visitors for good reasons. First, they can appear as a disturbance when browsing. Secondly, many pop-ups don’t come from a website but rather from malware.

All of these reasons have prompted software companies and web browsers to introduce what’s called the ‘pop-up blocker.’ However, not all pop-ups are bad. Pop-up ads can be sources of relevant information and help visitors find what they’re looking for. Only interact with pop-ups from a trusted website.

With some best practices, you can make pop-up ads more pleasant for users and still help you reach your targeted advertising goal. Effective use of pop-up ads has been proven to increase conversion rates. Here are some pointers on how to create an effective pop-up ad:

Eye-catching and concise: While most visitors don’t end up buying anything on their first visit, the chances of them coming back is still high. That’s why you need to cleverly design your pop-up ads with a combination of relevant information, an attention-grabbing call to action (CTA), and some great offers.

Time: You don’t want your pop-up ads to be invasive and distracting. The key lies at the moment when the ads show up in front of visitors. You want the ads to help your customers solve the issue, not the other way around. Don’t make it appear too quickly but also not too late as you may lose their interest already.

Easy-to-see close button: Trying to look for the close button is annoying. Therefore, don’t hide it. Make it visible so that they can quickly close it when not interested.
