What Does CMP Stand For?

What does CMP stand for blog cover

CMP stands for Consent Management Platform.

A Consent Management Platform, or CMP, is for managing data and privacy consent on a website. These CMP’s are to support websites in managing tracking and cookies used on their website to comply with local regulations or to just be more transparent with tracking policies.

Enabling a CMP on your website

CMP’s make it easy for you to manage consent policies on your website. Depending on the platform, there are a variety of ways that this can be done, but at it’s most simple form – it’s a web banner or popup, informing a visitor about the tracking that takes place on the website and asks for their consent prior to initiating these 3rd party cookies. Using Google Tag Manager for placing pixels and cookies makes it much easier to connect your CMP with your pixel placements, as Google has a built-in “Consent Initialization” trigger. Google also offers an “Initialization” trigger for those cookies that are not 3rd Party but are rather needed for primary functionality of the website.
